Big thank you for entering the 2019 Richard Burton 10 km or the Kevin Webber Mini Miler Fun Run. This is one of the oldest races on the Welsh calendar. Thanks also to all of the runners who are again supporting this event having entered this race in past years. You are about to take part in a race that epitomises the spirit and beauty of our famous Welsh valleys, with the spirit of the legend that is Richard Burton.
The Bryn and Cwmafan events committee, charity number 1176360, organising this event will ensure all profits off this event will go to local charities and community organisations with details to be announced post event. You can also donate to these worthy causes at check out.
Parking
There is ample parking in and around the village of Cwmafan; including signed, designated parking areas

3. Car park opposite the coop in Waun Wen. SA12 9TB
4. Car park at Ynys Park, Cwmavon Rd, Cwmafan, Port Talbot SA12 8RB (Allow 10 to 15 Mins. to walk to the registration area from here)

Registration.
10KM
All entrants must be 15 yrs. or older.
All registration will be done on line and Race numbers will be posted to your registered address before the race so long as the online entry is completed before 23:59 on 17th October . If for any reason you will not be at your registered address before the race, please let the race organisers know as soon as possible.
On-line entries for the 10k, up until 23:59 on 17th October, will have a race number your name and guaranteed t shirt size on the front of your number and will be posted out.
Online entries will remain open until 12:00 midday Friday the 1st November or when the 2,500-entry limit is reached whichever is the sooner. There will be no new entries on race day.
All entries after 23:59 on the 17th October and before online entries close, will have to pick up the race numbers In the community centre from 13:00 - 17:00 Saturday 2nd November or on race day in the Rugby Club between 08:00 -10:00. These entries will just have a number. T-shirt will be on a first come first serve basis for sizes when you cross the finish line.
T-shirts for the 10k will be handed out after crossing the finish line on race day.
Collection of numbers not posted out and on the day race enquiries
This will all be handled in the Cwmafan Rugby Club next door to the Community Centre. Enter via the door at the side of the building facing the Library not the main door at the far end of the building, this will be used for the Mini Miler. A Richard Burton exhibition, refreshments and other activities will be in the Community Centre.
There will be four desks handing out race numbers for all those runners who have not already received their numbers through the post. Those runners who have received their numbers through the post do not need to come to these desks; they can go direct to the start line.
There will also be a help Desk in the Rugby Club to handle any enquiries you may have.
Kevin Webber Mini Miler: One-Mile Fun Run
Online Entry for the Mini Miler will stay open until midnight on tuesday 29th October if you enter before then your name will be printed on your bib. There will be on the day entries for this race but to guarantee a t-shirt please enter online. Registration for the Mini Miler fun run entries on the day will be from 8:00 to 09:45. This race start time is 10:15. Again, the “on the day” entries will be limited and at an extra cost so online registration is recommended.
T-shirts / numbers for the Mini Miler Fun Run will be available for pick up in the Community Centre from 13:00 to 17:00 on the Saturday and in the Rugby Club from 08:00 through to 09:45 on race day.
Any runners under the age of 9, we advise them to be accompanied by an adult (Welsh Athletics directive)
Collection of numbers and on the day Registration for the Mini Miler will take place in the Rugby Club with entry to this via the main door furthest away from the Community Centre. There will be two queues, one for those people just collecting their race packs and one for those registering on the day.
Once you have your numbers, you will then go into the main hall in the Rugby Club to collect your Kevin Webber Mini Miler t-shirt. Those who have registered online will get the size printed on their numbers. The hand written sizes on the numbers for those entering on the day will be on a first come first served basis in terms of sizes.
Toilets
There will be toilets available in Cwmafan Rugby Club. Portable Toilets will also be available outside the library. Disabled toilets will be available at the Cwmafan Community Centre.
There are also toilets in the changing rooms in Parc Siencyn Powell (the park on the main road opposite the Rugby Club). The Welfare /Soccer Club and Waun Club will also be open.

Other Facilities
There will be refreshments and a cake sale available in the Community Centre.
The library will be offering tea/coffee and light snacks courteous of McMillan nurses with monies raised going to their worthy charity.
Cwmafan Rugby Club will also be serving hot and cold snacks, drinks, sweets and the bar will be open
A massage station will be available from 9 am on the stage of the Community Centre operated by "Body Solve".
There will be 2 stilt walkers at the Kevin Webber Mini Miler providing extra entertainment for the children there.
Pre-race Briefing
A pre-race briefing will be held before the start.
Race Start
The 2 races will start outside the Cwmafan Community Centre SA12 9DF. The first race, the Kevin Webber Mini Miler Fun Run will be start at approximately 10:15 am by David Rees AM. This will be followed by the 10 km race, which will be started at 11.00 am by Ray Stevens from Cwmafan. It has been the tradition for this race for a local celebrity to start the race.
Marshalling and First Aid
The route and First Aid will be under the control of the Western Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, whom will ensure that any issues that occur during your run will be dealt with professionally.
Marshalling will be under the control of Port Talbot Harriers.
Road traffic control will be managed by our traffic management team, who are all section 8 trained.
Runners are reminded to keep to the left hand side off the road at all times unless otherwise directed, by a race official.
Drink Stations
There will be manned drink stations on route in the Rhyslyn car park Pontrhydyfen.
Finish Area
Once you cross the finishing line you will be directed onto the welfare field and out at the gate after 100m, the 10 km runners will receive their Richard Burton race memento, welsh cake and bottle of water.
There will also be a first aid station located in this area.
Prize list for the 10 km
Race Presentations for the 10 km run will start at 12:30 in the Rugby Club. All prizes will be awarded to both the qualifying Male and Female. Most Supported Group, the Lesa Hitchings Trophy, plus a £250 donation to the charity of their choice......
A £50 bonus will be paid to the fastest male under 30 Minutes and female runner under 34 minutes. A further £50 will be paid to anyone setting a new male or female course record. Current course record holders are Ian Hamer at 29:23 and Andrea Whitcombe at 34:12.
Cwmavon RFC will compete with Pontrhydyfen RFC for the Mathew Mizen Memorial Trophy.
Kevin Webber Mini Miler Fun Run
Children entering this race will receive a T-shirt they can run in, a goodies bag and a medal. The first 3 boys and first 3 girls across the finish line will also receive trophies. These will be presented in front of the 10k start line at 10:50.
The Kevin Webber Mini Miler Fun Run presentations will take place at the start line just before the start of the 10 km run.
Post-Race Entertainment
There will be a number of activities available on the day for all to enjoy, including live music at the Cwmafan Rugby Club starting after the race presentations.
All runners, friends, family, spectators and guests are welcome to the post-race party. In a relaxed atmosphere, you can share race stories over refreshments whilst listening to live music at the Cwmavon Rugby Club. A licensed bar will be available.

Over in the Soccer Club from 1900-2030 Entertainment will be provided by Lost Cause... followed by Pollen Count until 23:00.
